Volunteering with Pregnancy Help Dunedin
What can we offer you?
What can you offer us?
What do volunteers do? Help people is the very simple answer. Now for the explanation of how the “helping” works. People contact us for a variety of different reasons – they may need some practical support, they may want some information about a pregnancy or family issue, they may just want someone to listen to them while they talk.
Client workers are the people in our premises during the day – answering the phone, talking to the people who come in the door, doing the listening, organising the practical support.
Branch Executive members (Committee members) are the people who are involved in the decision making – deciding what we are doing and how we are doing it. These people are sometimes the ones who are busy working during the day but still want to be involved in the helping so attending one evening meeting a month for a couple of hours suits them well.
We don’t do fundraising or street appeals (so we won’t be asking you to sell raffle tickets or man cake stalls) as we source our funding through grant applications (the committee makes the overall decisions about these but the Manager does the groundwork).
Employee Volunteering
We offer opportunities for employee volunteering on a one-off basis. This will usually involve sorting and organising practical support so that it can be provided to families. Please email us at otago@pregnancyhelp.org.nz to discuss this. Community Sorting volunteers Our community sorting volunteers also help us out sorting and organising practical support so that it can be provided to families. Please contact us via Facebook message (https://www.facebook.com/Pregnancy-Help-Dunedin-Otago-117853728319/ ) and we can let you know when sorting sessions are taking place. Knit Kit volunteers Our Knit Kits (a fantastic idea started by our Branch in Central Hawkes Bay) have some information about what we do, a knitting pattern and a ball of wool. You take the kit away, work your knitting magic and then return a completed baby singlet to us. This singlet is then passed on to a family (at no cost) to help keep their baby warm. Please call in to see us or contact us via email or Facebook. Volunteers working in our premises All volunteers working in our premises are subject to our Code of Conduct. Here is a copy of it here: Code of Conduct Please contact us if you have any queries. Health and Safety Policy We also have a Health and safety policy which is applicable to anyone working in our premises and to anyone coming into our premises for any reason.
