WELCOME TO OUR NEW VOLUNTEER

Welcome to our new volunteer
We are very glad that you are here
Come on in and share
We hope you stay more than a year
We give out equipment, advice and the odd nappy
Which makes mothers and their new babies happy
We hope your role as a volunteer
Will bring you fulfillment, respect and cheer
(and hopefully to conference each year!)

TO A VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE MEMBER

Welcome to my office
Come and have a chat
We’re all friends here
And our work is “this and that”
We want you to be happy
We’d really like you to stay
Lots of work gets done here
But there’s always time to play
So glad you’re keen and willing
And ready to share your skills
We do it all for love here
But here we all are still.

WELCOME TO OUR BRANCH

A new volunteer
We welcome today
We bring her in to show her the way
To make a difference in our community
Come and share some, friendship a drink
and a bikkie!

INFORMATION FOR PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS

All of our branches throughout New Zealand are constantly in need of Volunteers for a variety of positions/tasks to help support the thousands of families that use the services of Pregnancy Help. Volunteers are required as phone or fieldworkers, committee members or treasurers, helping to maintain clothing and other stores, knitting, sewing or mending, crèche workers, etc.

Without the thousands of hours that our Volunteers put in each year we would be unable to provide the many varied services that each branch offers and reach those in need.

Becoming a Volunteer is very rewarding and satisfying and is able to be done at a commitment level that suits the Volunteers needs.

We offer an induction training and then on going training and supervision as required or available. When initial training is completed Volunteers are then supported in to their chosen area(s) and often a buddy is put in place to support the new Volunteer as much as required until they feel confident to work on their own.

Pregnancy Help has very dedicated teams of Volunteers in all their branches and would welcome the opportunity of new Volunteers to be part of these teams. If you would like to find out more about "becoming a volunteer" then contact the branch nearest to you for more details or to find out when the next training will be taking place.

The following are some of the skills/qualities that we look for from prospective Volunteers:

  • A pleasant personality.
  • An ability to communicate with people and keep written records.
  • An ability to listen and hear what people are saying.
  • A willingness to learn, grow and change.
  • Acceptance of others and a desire to help.
  • The ability to respect confidentiality.
  • The capacity to act in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Reliability. We need to be able to rely on the person to undertake training and to carry out assigned duties.
  • An awareness of social issues, social justice.
  • An ability to work as part of a team.
